It all started when people started questioning the Catholic Churches position and authority, and art became one of the most essential sources of communication. They then wanted to spread the word to all individuals, but there was one problem, three quarters of the population could not read, write. These accusations against the church, caused the church to clean up any mistakes made in the past, as they could use it against them. That is where art came in, to show the public their thoughts on the Catholic Church they used art as a resource of communication to the uneducated individuals.
Impact on How Jesus was portrayed
Since people started to question their faith in the Catholic Church, they were also questioning their faith in Jesus. When the Catholic Church is accused of something, people immediately thought of Jesus, whether he is what some individuals suspect he is. Basically this impacted all of the Christian religion, culture, traditions, beliefs, and this included Jesus and God along with the followers of them. Jesus was being portrayed as someone who would not care for our well being, he was being portrayed as an evil man, which he is not.
